Nice post!

We’ve been doing humor hook linkbait on the web since 1995 at Zug.com

It would be great to get your feedback on the comedy linkbait angle!

Yo, I can think of another word for 'affiliate':
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shill

Which turns those who knowingly employ such affiliates into this guy:
http://www.quizwiz.biz/biz/samquiz/QQpics/snake-o...

Second-oldest profession?

Great post Ryan. The review sites you posted are indeed all fake, for the record.

The way [redacted] ran their affiliate program was one of the biggest reasons I quit. Not only we were supporting and encouraging deceptive review sites, we were on the cusp of taking it one step further by paying customers to write positive reviews to go on these sites. We colluded with other hosts on how much to pay review site affiliates and recently, how much to charge for hosting. [Redacted] even cooked affiliate numbers for certain top affiliates in order to make it appear as if their conversation rates were higher so that we could maintain a top ranking.

I spoke with several people regarding this matter prior to my departure and the only response I got was, "Yea. We know it's wrong, but it brings in new accounts."

I suppose if anyone is really that hungry for money and ethics isn't an issue, affiliate marketing is the way to go. Otherwise, like you just said, "affiliate marketing is the drizzling shits."

Affiliate marketing is also referred to as "Niche Marketing" to make it sound more credible.

And nothing says credibility like: nichemarketingoncrack.com
